Support the Murkowski Resolution of Disapproval - S.J. Res. 26

Dairy GREAT LogoAccording to key Senate staff, a vote on Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s (R-Alaska) resolution of disapproval, S.J. Res 26, is expected as soon as next week. As you may remember, Sen. Murkowski introduced legislation earlier this year to stop the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from continuing their efforts to regulate greenhouse gases (GHG) under the Clean Air Act (CAA).

NMPF joined 137 other agriculture organizations on a letter to Sen. Murkowski supporting her introduction of the resolution. The groups stated that such regulatory actions would carry severe consequences for the U.S. economy, including America’s farmers and ranchers, through increased input costs and international market disparities. As a matter of fact, if this resolution fails, nearly 99% of all U.S. dairy farms could be hit with new EPA regulations.

At this time, there are 40 cosponsors signed on to the legislation. Fortunately, unlike many other controversial measures in the Senate, the resolution only requires 51 votes to succeed. The following is a list of Senators identified as priority targets for this vote:

  • Webb: D-Va.
  • Brown: R-Mass.
  • Pryor: D-Ark.
  • Conrad: D-N.D.
  • Bayh: D-Ind.
  • Dorgan: D-N.D.
  • Casey, Jr.: D-Pa.
  • Warner: D-Va.
  • Tester: D-Mont.
  • Johnson: D-S.D.
  • Rockefeller: D-W.Va.
  • Begich: D-Alaska
  • Baucus: D-Mont.
  • Brown: D-Ohio
  • Bennet: D-Colo.
  • Byrd: D-W.Va.
  • Specter: D-Pa.
  • McCaskill: D-Mo.
  • Collins: R-Maine
  • Snowe: R-Maine

With a possible vote being next week, NMPF will be kicking off a grassroots campaign through Dairy G.R.E.A.T. Please visit our Dairy G.R.E.A.T. website for further information.
