Keep Families Farming

On September 2, 2011, the Department of Labor submitted its first rewrite of child farm labor laws in 30 years, which would prevent children under 16 from operating power-driven machinery, herding livestock on horseback, or working around breeding cattle. NMPF, along with the American Farm Bureau, National FFA, and other farm groups, has actively lobbied Congress to educate members on the potential impact these regulations would have on farm employment.

Foundation for the Future

Foundation for the FutureFoundation for the Future, which has evolved into the Dairy Security Act of 2011 (HR 3062), is a package of proposed dairy policy programs that dramatically improves the traditional approach to dairy policy and fosters a more economically-viable and secure future for dairy producers.

The Dairy Security Act is modeled after Foundation for the Future’s key elements. It offers farmers a better safety net in the form of a voluntary margin protection program, including a market stabilization element should dairy farmers choose to protect their equity with the margin protection program.
