NMPF Supports Continued MILC Funding To Maintain Baseline for Direct Payment Program in Next Farm Bill

Farm Bill LogoThe Senate last week passed a $122 billion emergency spending bill containing a one-month extension of the MILC program - something NMPF had urged senators to do last Wednesday. NMPF sent a letter to each senator, asking their support for extending the Milk Income Loss Contract program for the month of September - a 30-day extension with larger implications for the upcoming five-year Farm Bill. Dairy Farmer Margins to Improve with Higher Milk Prices

GraphSome relief for dairy producers from higher feed and energy costs is on the way according to NMPF's economists. USDA estimates February's all-milk price at $14.70, up 20¢ from January's revised figure, and up $1.20 from a year ago. NMPF projects the March all-milk price to rise to $15.80, $3.20 higher than a year ago, and to jump again in April to about $16.50, $4.40 above April 2006. More ...


U.S. and South Korea Settle on Trade Deal

Globe The U.S. and South Korea have been engaged in intense free trade agreement negotiations since last summer. This hard work culminated in an agreement over the weekend. A deal by this deadline was necessary in order to submit the FTA under the current U.S. Trade Promotion Authority rules. More ...

 

FDA Extends Cloning Comment Period

FDA has extended the date for submitting comments on the Draft Animal Cloning Risk Assessment until May 3, 2007. NMPF, along with a coalition of trade associations, had requested the extension and is pleased that FDA has granted the additional time. NMPF will continue to develop our comments to FDA and will provide them to members to assist in drafting their comments. More ...

 

National Dairy Leaders Conference Set for April 15 - 17

NMPF, along with other food industry associations, has asked the Food and Drug Administration for an extension on the comment period on the FDA's draft risk assessment on animal cloning. The comment period is set to close on April 2nd. More ...
